Pakistan beat Thailand in AVC Challenge Cup
LAHORE: Pakistan volleyball team on Monday blasted their way into the quarter-finals when they notched their second successive win after they downed holders Thailand in straight sets in the AVC Challenge Cup 2024 in Isa Town, Bahrain.
The Green-shirts exhibited exceptional skills and teamwork to secure 3-0 victory with the set score being 25-22, 25-14, 25-21. Pakistan will now face in the quarter-finals the winners of the match between Chinese Taipei and Vietnam which will be held on Tuesday (today).
“The boys are good,” Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) chairman Chaudhry Mohamamd Yaqoob told The News. “Yes today they did not play upto their optimum level but still it is creditable that they are winning,” Yaqoob said.
“The last two events which we hosted benefitted the team a lot and I think we should host such events regularly in future as it also forms a good fan-base which helps in the development of the game,” said Yaqoob, also a former top police official.
Meanwhile PVF Director Technical and former Pakistan’s captain Naseer Ahmed also praised the team’s progress in the event. “The team is playing really well,” Naseer told this correspondent.
