ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership Sunday rejected the Islamabad administration’s offer that it should hold a public meeting on June 8 at Rawat and decided to conduct its power show in Swat, to be participated by the grand opposition alliance as well.
The top leadership of the party met here after having received the local administration’s conditional offer to hold its public meeting in Rawat instead of any venue in the federal capital.
The meeting was attended by party Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser and other prominent leaders.
According to a party spokesperson, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also attended the meeting.
The huddle rejected outright the Islamabad district administration’s proposed venue and decided not to hold its public meeting at Rawat on June 8 and decided to challenge the district administration’s proposal in court.
The meeting emphasized unanimously that it was their democratic and constitutional right to hold peaceful meetings. The PTI leadership termed the permission for rally in Rawat as ‘mala fide’ and contended that the local administration fixed a remote place to sabotage and disrupt the rally. “The administration should allow the rally at F-9 Park, Parade Ground or Tarnol,” they maintained.
After detailed deliberations, the PTI leadership decided to hold a grand public meeting in Swat instead of Rawat on June 8. Consultation was also done with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in this connection.
Accordingly, on June 8, the opposition alliance will hold a grand rally in Swat and the entire leadership of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Constitution of Pakistan will also participate in the meeting.
The PTI meeting was also attended by Information Secretary Raoof Hassan, senior party leader from Karachi Firdous Shamim Naqvi and other prominent leaders.
