MULTAN: Senior politician Javed Hashmi met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and both the politicians discussed the current political scenario, the country’s democracy and role of political parties to strengthen parliament and democracy, insiders said.

Senior politician Javed Hashmi’s spokesperson said that Javed Hashmi met Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his house in Multan. Both the politicians discussed the political situation in the meeting. Hashmi met Maulana Fazlur Rehman on his request. Other leaders of JUIF were also present in the meeting, the spokesperson added. Sources close to the meeting told The News that Maulana Fazl had advocated his anti-establishment narrative and damage to the sanctity of free, fair and transparent elections in his meeting with Javed Hashmi. Both the key stalwarts discussed understanding and alignment among political parties to bury the culture and narrative of pick and choose through elections. Hashmi, known for his anti-establishment narrative, also agreed with Fazlur Rehman and his narrative, insiders said. Fazl flatly rejected the February last elections and results and said the politics of desired politicians and political parties through manipulated elections should be discouraged at all levels.
