Islamabad: The United Council of Churches Islamabad (UCCI) staged a protest demonstration outside the National Press Club, condemning the violence against Christians in Sargodha on the pretext of false blasphemy allegations.

Pastor Simson Suhail, Executive Director of the United Council of Churches, demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and punishment for the perpetrators. He emphasized that minorities are not against the law, but they are often victimized by its misuse. He lamented that despite constitutional guarantees, the government has failed to protect minorities, who have been reduced from 25% of the population at the time of Pakistan's creation to just 2% today.

The protesters, holding banners and placards, chanted slogans demanding protection for minorities and punishment for those responsible for the violence. Pastor Suhail emphasised that Christians are peace-loving citizens who have always played a vital role in promoting harmony and stability in the country.

He urged the government, judiciary, and law enforcement agencies to expose and punish those who seek to disrupt peace and security in the name of religion. The demonstration concluded with prayers for peace and security in the country. The United Council of Churches reiterated its commitment to working for the protection of minorities and the promotion of harmony and stability in Pakistan.
