Governor seeks all parties’ role in country’s development
LAHORE: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that the coalition government should be strengthened for the stability of the country and all political parties should be on one page and play a positive role in the development of country.
Punjab governor expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Pakistan People's Party Lahore division, which called on him at Governor’s House here on Friday. Speaking on this occasion, Punjab governor said that public service is the basis of the manifesto of People's Party. He said that the doors of Governor’s House are open for the people of the province. He said that he would try his best to fulfill his constitutional role in a good way and contribute to the improvement of the province.
The delegation was comprised of senior PPP leaders - Shahida Jabeen, Altaf Qureshi, Haji Azizur Rahman Chan, Arif Khan, Hafiz Ghulam Mohiuddin, Zahid Zulfikar, Asif Nagra, Atif Ch and Amjad Jat. Ahsan Rizvi performed the duty of moderator on this occasion.
Earlier, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan held an introductory meeting with vice chancellors of various universities of the province. Vice Chancellors briefed the governor about the performance of their respective universities.
Among the vice chancellors who met the Punjab governor were Government College Lahore Prof Shazia Bashir, Prof Dr Ahsan Waheed Rathore of University of Health Sciences, Prof Dr Ayaz Mehmood of King Edward Medical College University, Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood of Punjab University, Nankana, Prof M Afzal, Prof Dr Shagufta Naz of Govt College Women University Lahore, Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal of Fatima Jinnah Medical University Lahore and Prof Dr M Mushahid Anwar of Gujrat University.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that as chancellor he was committed to improve the quality of education and research in universities. He said that measures are also being taken for permanent appointments on statutory seats in the universities of province.
He said that educated youth are the asset of the country and all the universities should foster collaboration in order to achieve academic excellence. He said that the purpose of education should be to inculcate the habit of research in students and hone their analytical skills.
Seminar
A special seminar on 'World No-Tobacco Day' was held at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) here on Friday.
According to a press release, Regional Directorate Commander Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Punjab Brigadier Sikandar Hayat participated in the seminar as a chief guest while Chief Adviser ORIC and Innovation UMT Prof Abid Sherwani, faculty, staff and students attended the seminar.
Brigadier Sikandar Hayat while addressing the seminar said that ANF was making every possible effort to save the young generation from addiction. He said that youth are our future so we must keep them away from smoking and other substantial drugs. Smoking is the beginning towards other serious drugs so parents should keep an eye on their children so they don't fall into such a bad habit, he added.
