KARACHI: The first photos of Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai’s cameo in the British comedy ‘We Are Lady Parts’ have gone viral, showing the youngest Nobel prize winner in a cowboy avatar -- complete with hat and [fake] horse.

Malala made her cameo in Season 2 of the acclaimed show, the first episode of which aired yesterday (May 30). ‘We Are Lady Parts’ is a British sitcom written and directed by Nida Manzoor. The show is about a British punk rock band -- named Lady Parts -- which is solely formed by Muslim women.

Malala’s Season 2 appearance also featured a song called ‘Malala Made Me Do It’.

In a conversation with British Vogue, the Nobel prize winner shared what made her say yes to the cameo: this was “probably the first show I watched where you had Muslim characters who weren’t side characters – you had five of them as the leads. That stood out.”

She also told Vogue that she was concerned about her appearance, specifically getting her head-covering right: “I want to look good. I’d want somebody to put as much effort into the dupatta, and into how I want to cover my head, as everything else.... When I saw the look and the hat, I knew they’d thought about it. I was really happy.”

Meanwhile, the director of the show, Nida Manzoor, told the LA Times about her decision to ask Malala for a cameo, saying that she had heard Malala talking about her love of comedy “and she had such a dark sense of humor. She’s so witty. I thought, ‘This woman loves comedy so maybe I have a chance’.”

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani female education activist. She won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17.
