For new commission of inquiry: Govt forms 5-member body on Faizabad dharna

Cabinet has been pleased to constitute a committee in terms of rule 17 (3) of Rules of Business, 1973, notification said

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has constituted a committee to recommend whether a new commission of inquiry is required for fresh probe into Faizabad sit-in.

In the light of decision taken by the Federal Cabinet on May 29, the Cabinet division has issued a notification for formation of a five-member committee under rule 17 (3) of Rules of Business, 1973.

The cabinet has been pleased to constitute a committee in terms of rule 17 (3) of Rules of Business, 1973, the notification said.

The committee headed by Minister for Law and Justice also includes ministers for Interior, Establishment and Economic Affairs, Attorney General of Pakistan and Federal Secretary for Law and Justice.

The committee will recommend on whether or not to constitute a commission of inquiry on Faizabad dharna. The committee would also suggest composition of commission of inquiry and its Terms of References (ToRs) if a new commission is to be constituted.

The cabinet committee would submit its report to the cabinet within two weeks. The Ministry of Law and Justice would provide secretariat support to the committee.

The federal cabinet at its meeting which was held on 21st of this month, rejected report of three-member Inquiry Commission on Faizabad sit-in of Tehreek Labaik Pakistan (TLP). The report exonerated spy agencies and former ISI Chief Lt. (Retd) Faiz Hameed of any involvement.

The report also stated that then government did not accuse officials of spy agencies extending any facilitation to organizers of Faizabad dharna.
