Imran acquitted in two May 9 cases
Judicial Magistrate Omar Shabbir announced reserved verdict on PTI founder’s pleas of acquittal in two May 9 cases
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan was acquitted on Thursday in two May 9 cases registered at Islamabad’s Shahzad Town police station.
Judicial Magistrate Omar Shabbir announced the reserved verdict on the PTI founder’s pleas of acquittal in the two May 9 cases. The court acquitted Imran Khan in both the cases due to insufficient evidence.
An unauthorised person had registered the FIR which charged the PTI founder under Section 109 without presenting any evidence, said lawyer Mirza Asim Baig. Imran Khan’s counsel Mirza Asim Baig and Naeem Panjotha also completed their arguments on the bail pleas.
Meanwhile, the Cybercrime Circle of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated an inquiry into the propaganda video uploaded from Imran Khan’s official X handle, which was used for his controversial social media post on X. The video was uploaded on May 26, from Imran’s official account. The investigation is aimed at determining who created and disseminated the anti-Pakistan propaganda video and whether the account holder was involved in the uploading of video.
The officials engaged in the inquiry of the case, when contacted, said that the FIA will question three individuals, including Barrister Gohar Khan, Omar Ayub and Raoof Hassan, as the first step to determine whether the video was uploaded by Imran Khan himself or with his consent. “After recording the version of three PTI leaders, the inquiry team would meet PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala jail to obtain his account.
“This is to determine, if either Imran Khan himself uploaded the propaganda video or someone used his official X handle with or without his consent,” the officer maintained, adding that the schedule of initiating the inquiry would be finalised within a couple of days.
If the account holder is found to be involved, legal action will be taken against them. Otherwise, they will be required to submit a written application to deactivate their account, which was used illegally.
It is worth noting that Imran Khan is currently imprisoned in Adiala jail, and his official Twitter handle was used to upload the propaganda video. The FIA investigation will uncover the facts and take appropriate action.
In a related development, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court directed the Adiala jail authorities to arrange the PTI founder chairman Imran Khan’s talk with his sons over phone.
The PIMS doctors will take the blood samples of Imran in the presence of Dr. Faisal, Judge Malik Ijaz Asif also ordered. The case of Bushra Bibi was not brought to the court of appeal. The application should be filed with the court concerned, the judge ordered.
Imran had filed a request with the court to talk to his sons over phone, to meet Bushra Bibi and to send her blood samples to Shaukat Khanum Hospital. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision on the petition filed by founder PTI Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, PTI information secretary Raoof Hasan said in a private TV channel programme that Imran Khan’s social media account is operated from abroad.
