In a broad daylight incident of target killing, six armed assailants on three motorcycles followed a car having five brothers in the Gurumandir area on Thursday morning and attacked it from all sides, killing two brothers and wounded two others. The fifth brother narrowly escaped.

Police suspect that the incident took place over a personal enmity. The victims were on their way to court for a hearing when the assailants opened fire on them. As a result, of the five individuals in the car, two died on the spot, and as many were seriously injured.

Five brothers, who owned an ice-cream parlour, were heading to a court established at the Central Jail Karachi for a hearing. They were accused of having shot and killed a member of a rival group, Sameer Aijaz, in December 2023. All the five brothers had been released on bail in the case.

Jamshed Town SP Alina Rajpar in a media briefing said that the condition of one of the injured brothers was also said to be critical.

Police had recovered 17 empty shells of pistols used in the incident, she said, adding that the incident was a result of personal enmity and the car occupants were targeted deliberately.

She said that a similar murder incident had happened in the past and it was suspected that this incident was connected to the previous case. Police had initiated investigations and statements of eyewitnesses were being recorded, the SP explained.

The deceased brothers were identified as Sajid and Umair, sons of Aurangzeb. Their injured brothers include Wajid and Zubair. They lived in the Lasbela area of Karachi.

Police have also obtained CCTV footage of the incident, in which the assailants could be clearly seen firing at the car. As the car reached near a mosque in Gurumandir, the six armed assailants who had been following it surrounded it and opened fire. Initially, they targeted the driver.

The faces of the attackers are also clearly visible in the CCTV footage. After the shooting, they easily fled the scene. No case had been registered till the filing of this news story.
