LAHORE: Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said the government wants to introduce a uniform cleanliness system throughout Punjab.
The minister said this in a meeting with Municipal Chief Officers across Punjab. The meeting reviewed progress in the outsource model under the “Suthra Punjab” programme. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Special Secretary Asia Gul and Additional Secretary Maria Tariq also participated in the meeting held at Civil Secretariat.
The minister directed the Chief Officers to send the details of the available human resources and machinery. He said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz wants to introduce a uniform cleanliness system throughout Punjab.
“In the first phase, pilot project will be launched. Each waste management company should start a pilot project in at least one tehsil,” he said. He warned that no laxity will be tolerated in the matter of cleanliness. The minister said that for the first time the Punjab government wants to bring an efficient and long-lasting model of sanitation in Punjab. He said that cleaning targets cannot be achieved by neglecting the villages. On this occasion, Secretary Local Govt Shakeel Ahmed Mian directed that the Cos should ensure the implementation of the given instructions in letter and spirit. “Every Deputy Commissioner will also be asked to provide necessary facilities for the Suthra Punjab programme”, he added. During the meeting, the cleaning arrangements for Eidul Azha were also reviewed in detail.
