LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), in its budget proposals 2016-17, has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to focus on controlling under-invoicing and curbing the menace of smuggling, besides expanding the tax net instead of harassing taxpayers.

LCCI President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad said that the acts like attachment of accounts are discouraging the businessmen.

He said instead of arm twisting, tax avoiders should be tackled professionally.

Arshad appealed that genuine refunds should be immediately released and asked for accountability of vindictive tax officials on same lines as practiced in the case of tax avoiders.

He said the FBR cannot be a complainant and the judge by attaching accounts first and starting investigation afterwards.
