PESHAWAR: The target killing of police officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues as another assistant sub-inspector was martyred in the Sarband area of the provincial capital on Wednesday.

An official said Assistant Sub-Inspector Haji Akbar was on his way on motorbike to his office in Hayatabad when armed men attacked him in the limits of Sarband Police Station on Wednesday morning. He succumbed to his injuries before he could be taken to hospital.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Kashif Zulfiqar visited the spot and directed investigators to collect evidence from the crime scene.

The official told the media that two suspects had been rounded up while a search operation was underway in the area. “A passerby Muhammad Gul was also wounded in the firing,” the spokesman for the Capital City Police told the media.

He said the wounded person was being treated in hospital. The official added investigators had collected 10 empties of 30-bore pistol from the spot.

Haji Akbar was posted at the Police Assistance Lines in Hayatabad. The funeral prayers for he martyred cop was offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.

Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan, Capital City Police Officer Ashfaq Anwar and several senior officials attended the funeral prayer and paid tributes to the martyr.

Many policemen have fallen victim to targeted attacks in the provincial capital in the last few months.
