SCCI concerned over rising street crimes
PESHAWAR: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the biggest representative body of the business community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday expressed concern over the rising street crimes and deteriorating law and order situation in the provincial capital.
“The government must ensure protection of life and property of the citizens, including the business community,” said SCCI President Fuad Ishaq.In a statement, he said the SCCI chief said members of the business community had grave concerns over the rising street crimes, snatching at gunpoint, and killing incidents, which had created a sense of insecurity among them.
Fuad Ishaq offered cooperation to the provincial government, police and other law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) for the execution of the Safe City Project to maintain law and order in Peshawar.
The SCCI chief said it was highly essential to provide a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for flourishing business and commercial activities.He said despite unfavorable conditions, the business community continued business and trade activities.
Fuad Ishaq said it was the duty of the government, police and law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of the life and property of the citizens and business community to provide an environment for promotion of business, trade and economic activities.
He called for a review of overall security in Peshawar to eliminate the crime incidents.The SCCI chief suggested the government, police, LEAs and district administration should jointly devise a security plan in consultation with the chamber and business community.
