LAHORE:While the nation celebrates the 26th anniversary of nuclear tests, an organised group had allegedly been trying to grab Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s - the creator of Pakistan’s nuclear programme - philanthropic project ‘Dr. AQ Khan Hospital Trust Lahore’.
After the demise of Pakistan’s national hero Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, his daughter Dr Dina has been running from pillar to post to retrieve the control of her father’s philanthropic project from a group of illegal occupiers.
According to Dr AQ Khan’s family, the members of an organised group have been allegedly trying to grab the trust hospital by having registered a fake trust deed in collusion with the government officials. “The trust deed registered through forgery and fraud,” Dr Dina said, and brought it to the knowledge of Assistant Commissioner Rai Ansar Ali while naming the accused, Shaukat Babar Virk, Saeed Ahmed, Ayesha Nazir and Muhammad Sohail, saying they had registered the fake trust deed of the Trust Hospital by deception and fraud.
The assistant commissioner got registered a case under 420, 468, 471 PPC at Naseerabad police station against the accused on March 05, 2024, but the accused could not be arrested. It was further alleged that the accused, again, tried to occupy Dr. AQ Khan Hospital as they barged in with armed men in the dark of night on March 15, 2024. However, the hospital administration immediately informed the police. “With the timely action of the police, the accused’s alleged attempt to take over the control of the hospital was prevented”.
During the operation, the police detained four persons, but the accused Shaukat Babar Virk, Saeed Ahmed, Salim Rahmat and Khizer Hayat managed to escape. A second case was registered against the accused in Ravi Road police station under 448 and 511 PPC.
“This group is using different tactics to take over the hospital,” Dr Dina alleged, and added that false cases are being filed by this group of land-grabbers against Dr AQ Khan’s daughter and her team members in order to harass them.
Dr Dina has also requested Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz that Dr Abdul Qadeer sacrificed everything for the integrity and security of Pakistan, so those who are damaging the reputation of Dr Khan and his family should be dealt with iron hand. She demanded that a strict action should be taken against the elements, who are involved in occupying the trust hospital by forging fake documents. “The justice must prevail through severe punishment to the accused by the courts,” she emphasised.
The accused persons, named by Dr Dina, were not available for comments. DSP Shafiqabad Rana Ashfaq on the issue said that three main accused persons including Suhail, Shaukat Babar Virk and Saeed Ahmad have secured bails from different courts. The counsel of the complainant has moved Lahore High Court for the cancelation of pre arrest bails of Shaukat and Saeed while post arrest bail of Suhail.
Four other accused persons, who were beneficiaries of fake deed, will also join investigation at Naseerabad police station as the sub-registrar Rai Ansar had got registered a case against them over preparing fake deed about ownership of AQ Khan Trust Hospital. Once bails were canceled, the accused persons will be grilled keeping in view all aspects to ensure justice, he maintained.
