LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Punjab, has issued an alert for rain and wind this week. According to a PDMA spokesperson, heavy rain and dusty winds are expected in different districts of Punjab from May 28 to June 1.
Dusty winds and thundershowers may occur in most districts of Punjab, with wind and rain forecasted for Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Mandi Bahauddin. Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali.
Additionally, rain and storms are predicted in Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, and Jhang. DG Irfan Ali Kathia said that the district administrations across Punjab have been informed about the weather situation. While the heat wave will continue in southern Punjab and the plains, there are concerns that standing crops may be damaged by the storm. An alert has been issued to the district administration as per the instructions of the chief minister. The departments of health, irrigation, construction, and communication have issued alerts to the local government and livestock departments. Alerts have also been issued to the Information Department, Punjab Police, and Civil Defence given the weather situation. The public is advised to stay in safe places to avoid lightning. It is recommended never to be under the open sky during lightning and stormy conditions. Special care should be taken for children, ensuring they do not go near water that collects in low-lying areas. In case of an emergency, contact the PDMA Helpline at 1129 or Rescue 1122.
