ISLAMABAD: KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur can become a key source of engagement between the Imran Khan-led PTI and the military establishment.

Publicly known for his fiery temper, KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur has been carrying himself well in his interactions with the federal government and during SIFC meetings. Informed sources said that during the SIFC meeting and in his official interaction with the federal government authorities including prime minister, Ali Amin has been behaving completely in contrast to his aggressive public posturing.

During his press conference along with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Power Minister Owais Leghari here on Monday, Gandapur, in reply to a question, told the media that his politics and his administrative responsibility should remain detached and not be mixed up. Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur on Monday said that he is ready to work with all state institutions to resolve the issues of his province.

Gandapur, said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder has said, “We do not have any conflict with institutions, there is no disagreement with the governor’s policy, we will have to negotiate on the issues and rights of the province.”

It is said that in the closed door meetings, Gandapur has conveyed the same to the federal authorities. “He is cooperative, he positively takes part in discussions on issues of national interest and never engages in any sort of conflict or bad mouthing,” a source, who has attended a few such federal level meetings, revealed about the conduct of the KP chief minister.

Gandapur has not yet held any one-on-one meeting with the Army Chief. He, however, along with his cabinet members met the Corps Commander Peshawar recently. Gandapur’s meeting with interior minister and power minister and their resolve to cooperate with each other regarding issues of loadshedding and recoveries in the province is seen as a pleasant breakthrough.

It may irritate the PTI social media and possibly lead to trolling of the KP chief minister but the Monday’s development left a good impression about Gandapur. For being the KP chief minister and with his positive participation in the federal level official meetings, including that of the SIFC, Gandapur may get the opportunity to interact, beyond exchange of pleasantries, with the Army Chief.

Gandapur was Imran Khan’s choice as KP CM but within the PTI some allege him to be the man of the military establishment. Before the Feb 8 general elections and at the time of fielding candidates, Imran Khan had ensured that all other PTI runners for the KP CM slot be given National Assembly tickets to guarantee the smooth sailing of Gandapur into the Chief Minister’s office.

A senior PTI leader had told this correspondent on that occasion that those who closely know Gandapur are sure that he is politically very sharp and know how to keep a balance between his party’s politics and those who matter.
