PESHAWAR: An army captain and a soldier were martyred, while five terrorists were killed and three wounded during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Hassankhel area of the provincial capital on Sunday.
“On May 26, 2024, the security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Hassankhel area of Peshawar district on the reported presence of terrorists,” said a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
“During the operation, our troops effectively engaged the terrorists, as a result of which five terrorists were sent to hell, while three terrorists were injured,” the media wing of the military added.
It said that during the intense exchange of fire, Captain Hussain Jahangir, 25, resident of Rahim Yar Khan, while leading from the front along with Havildar Shafiq Ullah, 36, resident of Karak district, embraced martyrdom while fighting gallantly. The ISPR said the sanitisation operation was being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area.
“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” it added.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur have expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathies with the families of martyred officials. The governor also prayed for the martyrs.
He said the security forces had rendered matchless sacrifices for peace and the entire nation held these sacrifices in high esteem. The chief minister, in a statement, said: “The security officials embraced martyrdom while valiantly fighting the terrorists. The nation is proud of them.”
Gandapur said the entire nation stood by the security forces in the war on terror. “The nation salutes the sacrifices offered by our security forces personnel,” he said.
