KHAR: The local chapter of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Sunday asked the government to declare the ex-Fata and Malakand Division a tax-free zone for 10 years.
Speaking at a press conference, JI district deputy chief Qari Abdul Majeed, general secretary Muhammad Hameed Sufi and others said the people of ex-Fata and Malakand had faced militancy, the coronavirus pandemic and the flash floods, crippling them financially.
They said that the business community and the traders could not pay the taxes, therefore, the government should declare the merged districts and Malakand division tax-free for at least another 10 years.
“The people of erstwhile Fata and Malakand should be exempted from paying all sorts of taxes,” Qari Abdul Majeed demanded, asking the government to unveil a special package for the militancy-hit region.
