KARACHI: Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Saturday presided over a meeting at the Central Police Office Karachi and gave necessary instructions to address the current law and order situation in the city.

Officials said that the meeting was attended by the Additional IG Karachi and all senior police officers of Karachi Range, units and Investigation Department. The Karachi Range DIGs and DIG CIA gave briefings on the prevailing law and order situation and police action against crime.

The IGP said that under the leadership of the Additional IG Karachi, all departments of the Karachi Police have performed very well and commendably in terms of law and order and control over crime. The proof of this is the recognition of the lack of crime in Karachi by the citizens themselves. Therefore, such encouraging and determined police actions against crime need to be continued, he said.

He directed that on the occasion of Eidul Azha, a foolproof plan should be prepared district-wise with the suggestions of all stakeholders regarding securing cattle markets, markets, roads, highways and areas. Keeping in view the extraordinary strategy, all the district officers will protect the cattle markets, markets, roads and highways in their respective areas with additional deployment of police and strict supervision.

He said supervisory officers of districts, divisions and police stations will ensure their presence in the field and moment-to-moment monitoring of security measures along with the police personnel on deployment. Apart from this, an additional police force should also be deployed in the police stations, he said.

Memon said that on the occasion of Eidul Azha, steps should be taken like significant deployment of additional police force in different areas along with officers and jawans of Madadgar-15, so that police action against elements, groups and their operatives involved in crime can be continued in a full and systematic manner. He said the deployment of additional forces will undoubtedly go a long way in curbing crime. Moreover, the police officers would take steps to provide crime data on police action, arrests, registration of cases, investigation of cases, etc. on a daily basis.

In addition, commendation certificates will be given to officers who perform well against crime. He said that during the investigation of various cases, the process of the identification parade of the accused should be ensured while steps should also be taken to store the investigation reports in the data bank in one place.

The IGP said that modern techniques should be used for the arrest of proclaimed offenders and absconding suspects and measures should also be ensured to block mobile sim cards and publicize their pictures.

He said that the Special Branch should ensure full support and assistance to the district police regarding Eid security arrangements and arrest of those involved in crimes.
