ATHENS: Pakistani athlete Mona Khan, who was arrested in Athens, was released through the efforts of the Foreign Office.
FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that Mona Khan was moving from Katerini to Athens, where she would meet her son. She said that the officials of the Pakistani embassy on Saturday met Mona Khan in jail. The authorities of Pakistan embassy in Athens had also hired a lawyer for the release of Mona Khan.
According to the spokesperson for the Foreign Office, the Pakistani embassy had raised the issue of Mona Khan’s arrest with the Greek authorities and sought consular access to Mona Khan. Athlete Mona Khan was allegedly arrested for attempting to hoist the Pakistani flag on Mount Olympus.
Eariler, coach Malik Yusuf said that Mona Khan arrived in Athens two days ago to participate in a hiking event but she has been arrested and transferred to jail and will be presented in court on Monday.
Malik Yusuf has appealed for help from the Pakistani embassy in Greece for the release of Mona Khan.
