KARACHI: Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider has said that PML-N supremo Mian Nawaz Sharif should forget his narrative of persecution and move on and now focus on delivery from the PML-N.
Governor Haider said this during an interview with a private news channel while answering a question regarding Nawaz Sharif’s narrative of having faced persecution, and Sharif’s consequent compromise.
The Punjab governor told the news channel that he saw Nawaz Sharif as a senior politician with much experience, as someone whose politics he followed while a college student.
The governor added that however, “even if [Nawaz Sharif] was persecuted, the fact is that his brother is now the prime minister and his daughter is the Punjab chief minister -- so it seems that the injustice and persecution he faced has been redressed in a way.”
According to the governor, this is now not the moment for Nawaz to talk about the injustice meted out to him. “He should now forget those things and move on”.
In fact, said Governor Haider, “[Nawaz] should now keep a ‘check and balance’ over Maryam Nawaz as well as Shehbaz Sharif and focus on deliverance. If he sits outside of government and keeps a check on these matters it would work better.”
