Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday held a meeting with subsoil operators at the water corporation’s secretariat on Karsaz.

He said that providing water to all industries across the city, including those in SITE, according to their needs was one of the KWSC’s top priorities. The industries in SITE and elsewhere played a crucial role in the city's development and economy, serving as the backbone of the city's financial health, he added.

Ahmed said that a new law under the Water Corporation Act regarding subsoil water had been implemented and its goal was to provide uninterrupted water to industries and increase the corporation's revenue.

He maintained that no influential individual would be allowed to steal water meant for the citizens.

Addressing the subsoil operators, he assured that no licences would be issued to anyone involved in water theft, but legitimate issues faced by subsoil operators would be resolved. He mentioned that meters would be installed on all boreholes, and no wrongdoing against the water corporation would be tolerated.

The KWSC CEO said the new administration was taking significant steps to ensure fair distribution of water among citizens and would not tolerate any disruptions in water supply.

According to a statement issued by the KWSC, the subsoil operators thanked the CEO for listening to their issues and clarified that they wanted to work with the water corporation administration for the betterment of the city. They acknowledged the improvements in the water supply and drainage system, and announced the resumption of normal water supply to industries in SITE.

Previously, the operators had halted water supply to the industries, prompting the CEO to take strict notice and declare an emergency.
