ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court was requested Tuesday to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Secretary Information Rauf Hassan and Shoaib Shaheen, official spokesperson, “for scandalising and ridiculing judiciary and judges of superior judiciary”.

Advocate Mian Dawood filed a petition in the apex court. The petitioner prayed the court Rauf Hassan and Shoaib Shaheen be summoned and prosecuted under Article 204 of Constitution and Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003.

He submitted the two PTI leaders are continuously levelling baseless allegations against SC Chief Justice and IHC Chief Justice. He contended in the petition the respondents belong to PTI which is known for scandalising and ridiculing the judiciary when it does not get decisions in its favour from the courts.

“It is matter of record whenever any court gives decision against PTI in any case, the official media accounts of PTI and its leaders are being tasked to start hate and threatening campaign against that judge or court by way of discussing their conduct, personal lives”, the petitioner stated.

He submitted there are number of instances when, on instructions of PTI leadership, the office-bearers and workers had launched campaigns against the judiciary. That material available is on electronic, print and social media, he stated. Even a contempt case is pending in Supreme Court against Imran Khan, the petitioner submitted

The petitioner stated the press conferences, talk shows of the contemnors is prejudicial to integrity and independence of judiciary and detrimental to the safe administration of justice. These tend to bring SC and IHC and their judges into disrespect, defame and ridicule, he submitted.
