Instead of cooperating with the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) and taking strict measures in connection with the intermediate examinations starting on May 28, Prof Mustafa Kamal, regional director colleges Karachi, has started making demands for facilities at the exam centres.

In a letter written to the BIEK chairman, he has said that the colleges may not force employees to perform examination duties during summer vacations; therefore, he said, the colleges may be permitted to engage private institutions’ staff to perform examination duties during vacations, and candidates appearing at the examination centres should be supplied with sealed water bottles, instead of water made cool by adding locally made contaminated ice.

He further demanded that jammers for the mobile phone networks be installed, and the BIKE should form a desk at each examination centre for collecting cell phones from candidates appearing in the exams.

It is the task of a law enforcement agency to prevent the entry of any suspicious and unauthorised person to the examination centres. If the number of candidates exceeds 400 in any examination centre, the centre superintendent (principal) should be allowed to nominate an additional centre superintendent and the factotum should be allowed to nominate an additional factotum.

The names forwarded by the centre superintendent (principal) for the above addition of superintendent and factotum should be notified to the BIEK so that they can claim their remuneration. The exam centres must be exempted from power loadshedding during the examination hours, it was further demanded.
