PESHAWAR: A senior government official was robbed of his cellular phone near the Pishtakhara Chowk, police said on Monday. A deputy commissioner of the Income Tax posted in Islamabad was talking on his cell phone in his car when two motorcyclists snatched the device from him and escaped.

The Sarband police lodged a case and started an investigation. The other day, a foreigner was robbed of her phone in the limits of the Hashtnagri Police Station. The woman tourist was visiting various sites in Peshawar along with a local.

Several government servants, media men and others have been robbed in the provincial capital in the last several months. Hardly a few of the gangs were busted and some stolen phones and bikes were recovered while the majority of the cases remain untracked.
