Head of Gilani family and former PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is currently holding office of Senate chairman
ISLAMABAD: As Syed Kasim Gilani won from the constituency NA-148 in Multan, the Gilanis of Multan have created a unique political and parliamentary record as all male members of them are in the National Assembly, provincial assembly of Punjab and the Senate.
The head of Gilani family of Multan and former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is currently holding the office of Senate chairman, his three sons have been elected for the National Assembly from Multan while his one son is a member of the Punjab Assembly. The three Gilani brothers set the unique political and parliamentary record with Syed Ali Moosa Gilani’s election from NA-151 Multan 4, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani from NA-152 Multan 5, and Syed Ali Kasim Gilani from NA-148 Multan 1, while Syed Ali Haider Gilani was elected as MPA from PP-213 Multan-1. Their father, veteran politician and former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, vacated the seat of National Assembly from NA-148 after being elected senator from Islamabad and was subsequently elected as Senate chairman.
