NOWSHERA: A cop embraced martyrdom when two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on him on the GT Road near Amangarh Bridge on Saturday night.
District Police Officer (DPO), Nowshera, Azhar Khan, said that Noorullah, the District Security Branch police officer and a resident of Amangarh, was heading towards Azakhel on his bike when he was attacked.
Despite being critically injured, Noorullah managed to return the fire, wounding one of the attackers, who was taken away by his accomplice. Noorullah was initially taken to the Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex in a critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a hospital in Peshawar.
The DPO ordered a high alert across the district after the incident. A search operation was also underway to arrest the culprits involved and efforts were being made to locate the injured attacker in both public and private hospitals.
Sources said a search operation was launched in Nowshera, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and Charsadda to apprehend the attackers.
