Traders extend support to protesting LG reps
PESHAWAR: Traders from the provincial capital on Thursday announced joining the protest of the Local Government (LG) representatives till acceptance of their demands.
Shahid Khan, the president of the trader organization, Tajir Insaf, visited the protest camp. He announced that traders would observe a shutdown strike in the provincial metropolis if the genuine demands of the LG representatives were not met forthwith.
The LG representatives kept the main entrance to the Capital Metropolitan Government offices closed for the fourth consecutive day and the power supply was disconnected.Speaking on the occasion, trader leaders said the traders supported the LG representatives and asked the provincial government to accept their genuine demands.
They said they would display banners across the provincial capital in support of the LG representatives.“We will support the LG representatives on all platforms. And the traders are even ready to observe a complete shutdown in the provincial capital,” added Shahid Khan.
He said the provincial government could help end the protest by accepting the demands, saying the LG representatives could not serve the people without authority as they had voted them to the councils.
Earlier, the chairmen did not allow the officials to enter their offices and added that they would not let anyone work till the acceptance of their demands. They said that the transfer of the DG of the Capital Metropolitan Government, withdrawal of the decision to transfer the assets of this government to tehsils and other orders were affecting the affairs of the neighbourhood and village councils.
