The first phase of the Malir Expressway project from Qayyumabad till the Quaidabad interchange will be completed and opened for vehicular traffic on August 14 this year to provide speedy commuting facilities to the residents of Karachi.

Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani stated this on Wednesday as he inspected the under-construction Malir Expressway project. He said the expressway, after the completion of both phases till the Kathore interchange, would be opened for vehicular traffic by June 2025. He added that the Malir Expressway had a total length of 39 kilometres and it would help fast commute from Qayyumabad to Kathore in Karachi’s suburbs.

He mentioned that the Sindh chief minister had given orders to officials concerned that the first phase of the project till the Quaidabad intersection should be completed by August 14 this year.

Ghani remarked that the Malir Expressway project was being constructed under the vision of the Sindh government of the Pakistan Peoples Party to provide state-of-the-art road infrastructure to the residents of Karachi.

Later, the local government minister was informed that work had been temporarily halted on the Korangi Causeway project due to certain design defects and the construction activity would resume in next few days.

He told officials concerned that the Korangi Causeway project should have special provisions to facilitate motorists who wanted to exit or enter Karachi. Ghani later inspected under-construction mega development projects in District Central. He expressed disappointment at the slow pace of work on the Karimabad underpass. He asked officials concerned to ensure the completion of the underpass project as soon as possible.
