Commissioner reviews enforcement of essential commodities’ rates

Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi held a review meeting on Tuesday to discuss the enforcement of government-mandated rates for essential commodities.

The meeting took place at his office and was attended by Additional Commissioner Zeenaira Jalil, Deputy Commissioner Kamazi Junaid Iqbal, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, and all deputy commissioners via video link.

During the meeting, deputy commissioners presented reports on actions taken in their respective districts against violations of official rates. Over the past week, 360 profiteers were targeted, resulting in fines totalling Rs3.1 million. Four profiteers were jailed, and proceedings were initiated against 22 shops.

Deputy Commissioner South Altaf Sario reported actions against 114 profiteers, leading to fines worth Rs1.846 million and the sealing of six shops. Deputy Commissioner East Shahzad Abbasi stated that 44 profiteers were targeted in his district, resulting in fines of Rs2.23 million and the sealing of two shops.

Deputy Commissioner West Ahmed Ali Siddiqui disclosed actions against 35 profiteers, leading to fines of Rs1.41 million and the sealing of seven shops. Deputy Commissioner Central Fuad Ghaffar reported that actions against 15 profiteers in District Central led to fines of Rs0.3 million and the sealing of six shops. In District Malir, Deputy Commissioner Javad Mazhar reported actions against 49 profiteers, resulting in fines of Rs2.44 million.

Deputy Commissioner Korangi Junaid Iqbal reported actions against 37 profiteers, resulting in fines of Rs1.82 million and the sealing of one shop. Overall, fines totalling Rs1.046 million were imposed on 89 milk sellers, Rs1.632 million on 32 fruit vendors, Rs2.03 million on 28 vegetable vendors, Rs5.338 million on 52 meat sellers, Rs6.624 million on 42 grocery vendors, and Rs3.61 million on 61 poultry vendors, including bakeries and various food items, for violations of profiteering regulations.
