Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Tuesday asked the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take suo motu notice of “what happened in the general elections in the name of Form 45s, in order to avert chaos and anarchy”.
Speaking at a press conference at the JI Karachi headquarters Idara Noor-e-Haq, Rehman said the CJP knows very well that Form 45 is a sacred constitutional document, so he should take notice of what happened in the general elections.
The JI chief said that all the stakeholders of the state should perform their duties within their constitutional framework, as this is the only way forward for the country. He said that the “advanced engineering of the general elections was the worst kind of rigging, and it was lethal for the democratic process”.
Referring to the law and order situation of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), he said an AJK-like situation can erupt across the country if the unrest over Form 45 remains unaddressed. Expressing solidarity with the people of AJK, he said the JI supports the just demands of the people. However, he clarified, any misdeeds by some miscreants cannot be supported under any circumstances.
He said the JI would unite the nation to collectively voice concerns for their rights, and any attempt to suppress their voices would not be tolerated. He also said that a mass public movement is the best available option to rectify the state of affairs. The JI leadership is mulling over a mass mobilisation movement to address the issue, he added.
He also asked the JI Karachi chapter to take the issue of flawed census to the judiciary because the issue provides the basis for all kinds of systemic injustices to Karachi and Karachiites.
Regarding the issues of farmers in Punjab, he said the JI would hold a big march on Thursday (tomorrow) to protest against the government’s policies. Rehman said that there is an intense unrest among the farmers in Punjab as the government refused to buy wheat after unnecessarily importing it in large amounts. He said “millions of dollars were spent to facilitate a mafia so they can mint money”.
The same issue is looming large over the Sindh province, he pointed out, lamenting that small-scale farmers are being crushed across the country. He highlight “the lack of political will of the Pakistan People Party’s government in Sindh against robbers’ gangs in the riverine areas” and demanded that the authorities rid the people of the province of the cruel
elements.
He said the JI would hold a big march in Peshawar on Sunday to express solidarity with Palestinians. He also said the party would further the Palestinian cause and highlight the local issues side by side. The JI will announce its next course of action about Palestine at the march, he added.
