UK body invites applications for expert support from Pakistani climate projects

The UK government has announced 40 million pound to extend the CFA programme to 2029

LAHORE: UK Climate Finance Accelerator, a British government agency, has invited applications for expert support from Pakistani climate projects to tackle climate challenges.

The CFA program, funded by the Government, provides support to address financial, gender equality and social issues. CFA Pakistan is looking for projects that are at least in the feasibility stage and require an investment of at least $4 million.

Online application completed on CFA Pakistan website can be submitted till 31st May 2024 in which the suggestions to improve financial institutions in support for projects and ways to incorporate Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) into their businesses.

Jane Marriott, British High Commissioner posted in Pakistan has said that Pakistan is home to world-class inventors who find creative solutions to tackle climate change. “We know that access to finance and compliance with regulations can be barriers to initiating and completing projects,” Jane Marriot said.

Miss Jane Marriott said the UK Climate Finance Accelerator empowers low-carbon innovators with specialized skills that are critical to their long-term business success. The Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA) is a $12 million technical project planned by the Government’s Special Assistant on Conservation Energy and Net Zero.

The UK government has announced 40 million pound to extend the CFA programme to 2029. It will support 800 low-carbon projects in 16 countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa.

CFA (Pakistan) is successfully providing support to two groups under which the Daewoo company will include 200 electric buses and 15,000 e-rickshaws in its fleet, import costs to be reduced by growing sustainable greenhouse tomatoes locally, solar power to be produced which has 150 MW at various locations across Pakistan and 10,000 hectares of land is to be covered by afforestation.

CFA supports ambitious low-carbon projects that aim to raise at least $75 million. International technical support workers on the program include ten countries: Colombia, Egypt, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, South Africa, Turkey, Uganda, and Vietnam.
