Three-day Climate Youth Camp concludes in Swat

Approximately 100 social media influencers and university students from across the country participated in the event

MINGORA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Green Alliance and the United States Department Agency for International Development (USAID) organised a three-day Climate Youth Camp in Swat valley regarding the increasing impact of climate change on Pakistan.

Approximately 100 social media influencers and university students from across the country participated in the event.On the second day of the Climate Youth Camp, sessions on various topics were conducted at Swat University to raise awareness about climate change through digital platforms.

The objective of this camp was to educate youth about climate change so they can fulfill their responsibilities as responsible citizens and combat its effects.Vice Chancellor of Swat University Dr Hasan Sher, journalist Dr Mahboob Ali, Sherin Zada, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Swat Abrar Wazir, along with Pakistani and international researchers and journalists, shared their experiences and insights with the participants.

Furqan Khattak, the organizing director of the event and founder of KP Green Alliance, discussed the role of youth in addressing climate change. He said that youth could effectively raise public awareness about environmental conservation, forest protection, and water preservation through social media platforms.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Abrar Wazir elaborated on the impacts and damages caused by the 2010 and 2022 floods in the Swat district. Advocate Tariq Afghan of the Peshawar High Court highlighted the importance of providing legal and constitutional information to the public regarding environmental protection, emphasising that awareness was essential to address climate change.

“Government and non-government organisations should work together to raise awareness about the issue. Public awareness is the key to environmental preservation,” he added.At the end of the ceremony, shields and certificates were distributed among the organisers and guests.
