Through its indiscriminate public service in Karachi, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has proved wrong the widely held notion that the PPP does not serve in areas where it has no vote bank.
Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani said this on Saturday while speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate the Eidgah Ground in Korangi after its renovation and beautification.
Ghani said a transformed Karachi after many development works completed by the PPP’s Sindh government had nullified the allegation against the PPP that the party did not give due attention on the development of the provincial capital because its people did not vote for the party.
He maintained that the PPP’s Sindh government had delivered in all parts of Karachi, including Korangi. The provincial government had built highways, roads and flyovers in the Korangi area, he said.
The local government minister was of the view that the under-construction mega project of the Malir Expressway, once completed, would massively benefit the residents of Korangi.
He said a large cardiac healthcare facility having treatment capacity larger than the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases was also being constructed in Korangi.
Ghani claimed that the forthcoming 1,200-bed healthcare facility would be one of the biggest cardiac treatment facilities in the world.
He informed the gathering that a special rehabilitation centre had been built in Korangi under the public-private partnership mode for care and education of autistic children.
In the upcoming budget, the provincial government would make a substantial allocation of funds for the uplift of Korangi, Ghani said.
He mentioned that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari remained highly concerned about development works being carried out in Karachi and he often asked the provincial authorities about the state of uplift projects in the provincial capital.
He claimed that the PPP’s popularity graph had been rising in Karachi owing to record number of development works completed by the Sindh government in all parts of the city.
