Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the budget for the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) would be increased because it has become a 2,200-bed facility, while postgraduate seats would also be increased considering its growing needs.

Shah made the assurance on Saturday during his meeting with JPMC Executive Director Prof Dr Shahid Rasool, who had called on him at the CM House.

Dr Rasool gave a detailed briefing to the CM, saying that the JPMC used to be a 16-bed facility, and now it has become a 2,200-bed hospital. However, he pointed out, there is an acute shortage of doctors.

Considering the requirement of doctors, the CM approved additional PG positions/seats by 200. After the approval of the 200 new PG seats, their number would reach 953.

During the discussion, the CM directed Dr Rasool to establish a central medicine warehouse at the JPMC, saying that the provincial government would provide him with additional funds in the Annual Development Plan (ADP).

Dr Rasool also requested the CM to help the JPMC construct a parking plaza, for which the facility has considerable space. The CM approved the request, saying that the project would be

included in the ADP.
