LAHORE: Salim Haider Khan took oath as the 40th governor of Punjab at the Governor’s House here on Friday.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan administered the oath to the new governor. Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman read out a notification regarding the appointment at a solemn ceremony. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, outgoing governor Balighur Rahman, IGP Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, provincial ministers, secretaries, PPP leaders Khursheed Shah, Nayyar Bukhari, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, other important personalities and party workers attended the ceremony.

Addressing a gathering of party workers after the oath-taking of Salim Haider, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that unfortunately a culture of hatred was promoted in the country. but PPP would ensure due respect to its political workers.

Bilawal said he was glad to see a staunch party loyalist taking over as governor. He added that PPP attached great importance to its workers, and through hard work, they could attain important positions.

He stated that PPP was being mobilised in Punjab and it was committed to gain it’s space in the province. He expressed the hope that the new governor would take good care of the political workers. He also stated the world history showed that many revolutions took place due to efforts of committed workers.

The PPP Chairman said the bureaucracy would know that the governor behind the “jialas” if any injustice was done to them.
