Pseudo scandal
Pakistan has become a scandal ridden country. Every now and then there is a scandal. These days, it is the wheat scandal. A scandal usually implies a crime or wrongdoing. Let us try to find out what crime has been committed by the previous governments by allowing the import of wheat for the country’s food security. Past governments allowed the import of wheat on the basis of a reliable forecast prepared by the concerned ministry showing a shortfall of wheat supply in the country compared to its demand.
In my opinion, past governments tried to ensure food security by allowing the import of wheat. The imported supply of wheat helped stabilize the price of flour in the market. In view of the foregoing, I don’t think this so-called wheat scandal is a scandal. I think the reporting and highlighting of such pseudo scandals harms the country’s already struggling economy.
