The students of federal public schools are bound to suffer scorching summer heat during power outages due to non-availability of Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) or backup generators.
The 422 educational institutions working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in capital are without any back up power supply in hot summer’s frequent power outages, which is a matter of grave concern for the parents of the children.
Loadshedding is a big time worry for the parents as they cannot afford to educate their children in private schools, said Habib Khan, whose son is enrolled in I-8/ 3 model school.
It has become impossible to concentrate on studies in the school during power outages as heat becomes unbearable in absence of electricity, said Fatima, a class 8th student.
Some students from rural areas also complained for not having fans and water coolers at their schools due to which they prefer to remain at home.
When contacted, Dr Tariq Masood, Director Colleges, Islamabad, told this agency that the provision of UPS or power generators to all capital public schools colleges was impossible adding we have no plan to provide generators due to limited financial resources.
The parents have urged the authorities to provide basic facilities for their children to ensure trouble free environment.
Dr. Tariq said that the federal public educational institutions remain closed by start of the June for over two months to counter summer.
