Lawyers boycott courts

PESHAWAR: Legal fraternity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday observed a complete boycott of courts  to protest the recent target killings of two colleagues in Dera Ismail Khan.

The lawyers stayed away from courts across the province following the call of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council. They condemned the target killings of lawyers.  Like other districts of the province, the lawyers in Peshawar observed the complete boycott of principal seat of Peshawar High Court and sub-ordinate courts.

The lawyers’ leaders including vice-chairman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Muhammad Tariq Afridi, executive committee’s chairman Ijaz Sabi, PHCBA president Muzzamil Khan and Peshawar Bar Association president Amjad Ali Marwat condemned the target killings of lawyers.

They demanded strict security to the lawyer community and immediate arrest of the culprits to bring them to justice.

On the other hand, hundreds of litigants suffered due to lawyers strikes as the courts adjourned the cases due to the strike.  It may be mentioned that four people, including two lawyers and a teacher, were gunned down in Dera Ismail Khan in two separate incidents. The slain lawyers were identified as Atif Zaidi and Ali Murtajiz Zaidi.
