WASHINGTON: The US State Department on Wednesday offered “heartfelt condolences” to those affected by terrorist attacks in Pakistan and vowed to address such shared threats together.
“Pakistan has suffered a great deal at the hands of terrorists,” the department spokesperson Matthew Miller acknowledged saying, “We regret the loss of life and injury sustained and offer our heartfelt condolences with those affected by this attack and remain committed to working with Pakistan to address the shared threat posed by terrorist groups throughout the region.” During the daily briefing, the spokesperson maintained that the Biden administration has been in close and constant communication with the government of Pakistan on the safety of individuals in US resettlement and immigration pathways.
“We will continue to work with the government of Pakistan to address any issues or concerns,” the spokesperson reminded saying that it was in both countries’ interest to ensure the safe and efficient resettlement of those individuals.
He said the US will continue to encourage Afghanistan’s neighbours, including Pakistan, to respect the ‘non-return advisory’, given the dire situation in Afghanistan.
The US will coordinate with international humanitarian organisations to provide humanitarian assistance and to support the implementation of critical protection screening mechanisms, he said.
