LAHORE: Doctors at an emergency ward of Jinnah Hospital Lahore (JHL) allegedly refused treatment for a critically injured female patient, transported by Rescue 1122 from Pattoki, here on Sunday.
The female patient, who was severely injured in an accident, was brought to the Jinnah Hospital's emergency ward in a state of unconsciousness, along with her two minor children, who remained unhurt.
At emergency ward, the Rescue officials said, the doctors said the neuro equipment was out of order. The officials said, “When we told them that the patient was critical and needed urgent emergency treatment, especially because it already took them two hours to transport her to Jinnah Hospital, he doctors at emergency misbehaved with us, hurled abuses and dragged them out of the ward, asking us to take her to another hospital.”
We pleaded before them that the patient's condition is not in a state to be taken to another hospital, but they did not show any mercy, they alleged. Later, they transported the patient to Lahore General Hospital. The LGH sources say that the patient was admitted to ICU at Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS), and was stated to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, sources at JHL informed that Medical Superintendent Dr Yahya Sultan did not intervene when emergency treatment was denied to the patient. The rescue personnel carried the woman on a stretcher from in front of his office. However, when contacted, Dr Yahya Sultan said that the incident will be investigated and those found responsible will be punished.
