Sindh govt committed to ensuring labourers’ welfare, says Sharjeel
Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Excise, Taxation, Narcotics Control and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday paid tribute to the labourers working tirelessly day and night to advance national development on the occasion of International Workers’ Day also known as Labour Day.
He said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was steadfast in its determination for the rights of labourers as per the vision of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
In his message on Labour Day, Memon stated that the PPP had taken several steps for ensuring fair wages for labourers and their job security. He highlighted that the Sindh government had set a minimum wage of Rs32,000 under its reform programme for labourers.
He stated that under the Workers Welfare Board, the Sindh government had arranged health and death grants for labourers along with providing dowries for their daughters. Additionally, he attributed the establishment of labour colonies aimed at providing housing to labourers to the Sindh government being run by the PPP.
The information minister maintained that the abolition of child labour and bonded labour, as well as legislation for women labourers and persons with disabilities were achievements of the PPP.
He said the Sindh government had initiated the registration of domestic workers to ensure that they received equal rights comparable to industrial labourers.
The provincial government believed in upholding the principles of social justice and equality, he asserted.
He stated that Labour Day not only highlighted the sacrifices of workers but also underscored the importance of their rights and welfare. He reiterated the commitment to creating an environment where every worker had the right to live in dignity.
