Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has expressed astonishment at the ambivalence displayed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in its interactions with the state institutions.
A press statement released on Sunday quoted the Sindh information minister as stating that the ambivalence on the part of the PTI was quite evident. On the one hand, its leaders had been threatening to occupy Islamabad and on the other hand, they expressed willingness to engage in talks with the state institutions, Memon said.
He mentioned that the PTI’s current political strategy was rife with contradictions as it supported the campaign to defame the state institutions while simultaneously urging the authorities to engage in discussions with it.
The information minister highlighted that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister from the PTI had boldly taken on a threatening demeanour akin to a terrorist by warning to invade Islamabad. “The threat to occupy Islamabad indicates that the aspirations of the PTI's CM align with those of any terrorist,” he remarked.
Memon expressed regret that the PTI's threatening stance had previously been confined to the virtual realm of social media, but now it had materialised in the real world through the issuance of threats to intimidate the federal capital.
He noted that the PTI had been seeking to negotiate with the establishment instead of initiating discussions, but the state institutions were unwilling to entertain its request. The information minister pointed out that the PTI was severely lacking unity due to internal conflicts, with each faction within its ranks holding a different perspective.
“But there is a unanimous desire among all PTI factions to negotiate. Those who previously engaged in a smear campaign against the state institutions now have no moral grounds to propose commencing talks with the same agencies,” he said.
