ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday suspended a notification determining the price of naan and roti and sought a detailed reply from the respondents.

The petition, filed by the Naanbais Welfare Association president, came up for hearing before Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri. Umar Ijaz Gilani, the counsel for the petitioner and the district administration representative, appeared in the court.

The district administration representative told the court that the DCOs had been empowered to determine the price by making amendments to the law. The counsel for Naanbais argued that flour was expensive and the fare was high too. He told the court that the controller general had no powers under Section 3 to do so.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri asked the Naanbais if they had been asked at what price they were purchasing flour.

Suspending the notification till the next hearing, the court sought a detailed reply from the respondents and adjourned the hearing till May 6.
