LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, while approving the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar project here on Wednesday, asked officials to construct the best houses at minimum cost near cities.
She announced this decision while chairing a meeting on the construction of model low-cost houses for homeless low-income segment of the society. She directed officials to consult the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners for maps to construct these houses. Earlier, she was briefed that 519 Kanals of state land had been identified in five major cities, including Lahore, for the construction of low-cost houses for homeless low-income people. Maryam, while taking notice of a roof collapse incident at the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital, Gujrat, ordered the secretary health to submit a report after a thorough inquiry. She said action should be taken against all those who committed negligence. The chief minister expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives due to a boiler explosion in Faisalabad and ordered to get the SOPs strictly implemented to ensure workers safety. “Action should be taken against all those factory owners who do not follow workers safety guidelines.” She ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and sought a report from the commissioner Faisalabad in this regard.
