Killing of judge's son: police hold retired cop's son responsible

KARACHI: Police officials investigating the murder case of a district & sessions judge’s son in Defence two and a half months ago have held a retired police officer’s son responsible.

Their investigation report states that the suspect had killed the victim for eating half of a burger that the suspect had ordered for his girlfriend.

The incident had occurred on February 8 in DHA Phase V. The 17-year-old victim was wounded as a result of firing. He was first taken to a private hospital, then to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased, Ali Kerio, was South District & Sessions Judge Javed Kerio’s son, while suspect Daniyal Nazeer is retired senior superintendent of police Nazeer Mir Bahar’s son. The teenage boy was killed at the suspect’s bungalow.

Police had registered FIR No. 69/24 under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s cousin Shahbaz Alam, a lawyer, against the suspect Daniyal Nazeer. Following the incident, the police had arrested the suspect and launched their investigation.

After completing his investigation, the investigating officer sent his report to senior police officers. According to the report, Daniyal Nazeer is responsible for the murder of Ali Kerio.

The report stated that the victim and the suspect were friends. Daniyal had invited his girlfriend Shazia to his home, where his friends Ali Kerio and Qasim Ali, and brother Ahmar Nazeer were also present.

Daniyal and Shazia were in another room of the house, and he had ordered two burgers and a cold drink for her. When the domestic help was bringing the order to them, Ali Kerio took it and went to Ahmar’s room, where he ate half a burger.

This irked Daniyal, who went outside and returned with a rifle from the guard room. Despite his brother Ahmar’s intervention, Daniyal’s anger did not subside. After a heated argument, Daniyal shot Ali Kerio in the chest, severely injuring him.

Daniyal and Ahmar then took the victim to the hospital in their cousin’s car, but he had succumbed to his injuries before he could be administered any medical treatment.

According to the investigation report, Daniyal is responsible for the murder. The suspect is currently in jail, and the murder case is being tried in court.
