ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Jane Marriott has said that all the members of National Assembly should work together to solve the problems faced by Pakistan and start working on economic reforms for a prosperous Pakistan. Marriott gave this suggestion while talking to a PTI MNAs delegation which met the UK envoy in Islamabad on Thursday. PTI stalwart and opposition leader Omar Ayub and Information Secretary Raoof Hassan were among those who met her.
In a statement issued by the PTI after the meeting, PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hassan said that the session with Jane Marriott and his team members was pleasant in which various issues of mutual interest were discussed. He said that they look forward to further cooperation with the UK. It should be noted that Raoof Hassan had criticized Jane Marriott’s activities in Pakistan in the past, especially her visit to the Election Commission of Pakistan in September last year. Raoof Hassan in a statement at that time said that “calling someone who insults the Constitution is like praising him for his misdeeds. Will they allow such a law to be implemented in their country? Are we revisiting the colonial past?’’ He added, “It is time for Jane-Marriot to come out of this terrible past, stop playing the role of viceroy and give some thought to the public sentiment.”
