SUKKUR: Eight persons were killed and 37 others injured on Wednesday in a head-on collision between an oil tanker and a coach on the Indus Highway near Manjhad Town in district Jamshoro.
According to the police, the coach was heading from Larkana to Karachi, while the oil tanker was moving to Jamshoro from Sehwan.
After the accident, the police and rescue teams reached the site and launched a rescue operation.
SSP Jamshoro Muhammad Tariq Nawaz confirmed eight deaths, saying 20 injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital in Manjhand and others to the LUMS University Hospital, Jamshoro.
Eyewitnesses said the rescue team 1122 reached the spot one hour after the accident.
The injured were identified as Faisal Rajpoot, Zaheer Abro, Syed Muhammad Shah, minor Dua Batool, Shabana Bughio, Uzma Brohi, Yasmeen Kalhoro, Mehtab Kalhoro, Faheem Kalhoro, Ali Gohar Chandio, Manzoor Chandio, Sahib Khan, Ghullamullah, Raja, Ahsan Gadhi, Sajad Junijo, Waqar Kalhoro, Zahid Unar, Wajid Unar Tayaba Rajpoot, Yasmeen Rajpoot, Jannat Rajpoot Farhan Bughio, Imtaiz Unar and others. They all belong to Larkana.
Edhi volunteers said that four bodies were shifted to Taluka Hospital Majhand and three bodies to LUMS hospital.
The deceased were identified as Hajan, s/o Nazir Phulpoto, Papan, Manzoor Gadahi, coach driver Jawad Hussain and oil tanker driver Aslam Khokhar. The identities of other deceased remained unknown.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and the chief secretary expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed commissioner Hyderabad to ensure medical facilities to the injured.
