Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday formed a six-member team to investigate in the murder of senior journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar.
The murder case was registered at Sukkur C-Section police station last year. An order issued by the IGP said an FIR (132/2023) registered under sections 302,120-B, 337-H(2), 440, 48, and 149 of the PPC read with sections 6/7 of the Anti-Terrorism ACT regarding the brutal murder of a senior journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar was lodged on August 15, 2023, by his brother Karamullah Mahar at the Sukkur C-Section police station.
The order further said: “Some of facilitators were arrested during the course of investigation, but a lot of work is still to be done into the instant case as the rest of the absconding accused are still at large. Hence, looking at the gravity of offence, a committee consisting of the police officers is hereby constituted to re-assess the affairs of investigation of the case and to ensure the arrest of rest of absconding accused.”
The committee includes SSP Shaheed Benazir Abad Tanveer Hussain Tunio, SSP Sukkur Abid Baloch, SSP Shikarpur Irfan Ali Samo, SSP Khairpur Zubair Nazir Shaikh, DSP Sukkur CTD Abdul Qudoos Kalwar, DSP SITE Sukkur Mushtaq Ahmed. The committee should complete the task within 15 days and then submit a comprehensive report, accordingly, said the IGP order.
