NAWABSHAH: Nawabshah and Shezai of China have been declared twin cities, and an MoU in this regard was signed between Mayor of Shezai, Xuzhixin, and Commissioner of Shaheed Benazirabad, Dr Waseem Ali.
Member of the National Assembly, Dr Azra Fazal Pechohu, and an 11-member delegation of China were also present on the occasion. The delegation of China, comprising Mayor Shezai of Chinese province Xingyang and chairmen of agriculture, livestock, culture and irrigation departments visited Nawabshah to sign e Mou.
Addressing the ceremony, Mayor Xuzhixin said that China is a brother country of Pakistan. He said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has brought message of prosperity for the people of both the countries and new vistas of development in Pakistan would open with the completion of this project.
He said that China and Pakistan have agreed on declaring two cities of Sindh and Punjab provinces as twin cities and the agreement signed today has declared Shezai and Nawabshah as twin cities.
He said that the chairmen of the departments of irrigation, livestock, agriculture and culture would invest in these sectors in Nawabshah. He said that delegates from both the countries would visit each other’s countries.
He said that through cultural delegations the people of China would be able to learn about the culture of Sindh. Dr Azra Fazal Pechohu, MNA, in her speech on the occasion, said that declaring Nawabshah and Shezai of China as twin cities was a very pleasant development, and in the next phase a city of Punjab would also get the same status. She said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto during his tenure had established relations of friendship with China, and the sapling of friendship has now grown into a fully-fledged tree.
